DIVING ACTIVITIES

A pleasant warm climate averaging 27°C all year round and good visibility in Bali's waters await every diver to its impressive dive sites. The best time of the year for diving is the dry season from April to October while the wet season from November to March can be quite torrential.

Even in waters close to the shore, there are excellent diving and snorkeling areas teeming with a wide range of tropical fish. Dolphins, rays, sperm and blue whales, sea snakes and moray eels are frequently sighted and the reefs are in primitive condition.

The best places for diving and snorkeling in Bali are in the off-shore waters of Padang Bai and Candidasa in the east, at Tulamben and Amed, and in the north at Lovina and its beautiful beach. Further on is Permuteran and in the western tip of Bali is Labuan Lalang, the kick-off point to Menjangan Island, an uninhabited island with excellent dive sites. Nearly 7000 hectares of coral reef and coastal waters are protected as part of the Bali Barat National Park, including Menjangan Island.

In southern Bali, the reef in Sanur, the islands of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, and in Gili Air, Gili Trawangan, and Gili Meno in Lombok are all popular diving destinations.
